Amnesty International has said the new “CAMA” violates rights to Freedom of Association and freedom of expression in its several provisions.

AI, while criticizing the “CAMA” also implore the authorities to respect and protect the people’s rights and fully comply with the country’s human rights.

The AI statement read; “The new “CAMA” in several provisions violates the rights to freedom of association and freedom of expression particularly some aspects of sections 839, 842, 843, 844 and 850.

“Part F of the new “CAMA” shows a consistent pattern by the authorities to favour provisions that repress and undermine human rights. E.g. The Cybercrime Act, social media bill, hate speech bill and now the Water Resources Bill.

“We call on the authorities to respect and protect people’s rights and fully comply with the country’s human rights obligations by immediately removing the offending provisions of #CAMA, and taking proactive and concrete measures to protect human rights and access to justice.”
