The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council has honoured Honourable Shina Peller, a federal legislator representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency at the lower chamber of the National Assembly, with the Most Media Friendly House of Representatives member award.
The honorary award was given to him on Friday at Afe Babalola Bar Centre in Ibadan during the NUJ Pen/Awards Night which was one of the activities to mark Oyo State NUJ 2020/Press Week.
Reacting to the award, Hon. Peller expressed his profound gratitude to the executive and entire members of the NUJ, Oyo State Council, for finding him worthy of the honour, adding that it is a great privilege that must not be taken for granted.
He said, “I am humbled to be honoured by the NUJ, Oyo State Council as the Most Media Friendly House of Representatives member. I consider this a great privilege that must not be taken for granted. Thank you so much my dear gentlemen of the press.
“There are fourteen serving House of Representatives members from Oyo State, and we are all outstanding in our own unique ways. For NUJ to single me out as the Most Media Friendly Rep means a lot to me.”
Similarly, Hon. Peller noted that the award is a challenge to him to be better in whatever it is that he has been doing that made the NUJ consider him worthy of the honour, and reaffirmed his unflinching support and commitment to the course of the NUJ whenever the need arises.
In the same vein, Hon. Peller, who described journalists as watchdogs of the society and vital instruments for societal development and national integration, urged governments at all levels, corporate organizations and individuals to treat and deal with journalists with utmost care and respect bearing in mind that the press is the fourth estate of the realm.
