2020: 1,503 Suspects Arrested, 1,024 Crime Cases Reported In Katsina – Police

The police have arrested at least 1,503 suspected criminals in connection with 1,024 cases in Katsina State.

These figures, according to the authorities, represent the overall summary of the achievements recorded so far by the State Police Command within the year which ends on Thursday.

At a press briefing held at the Command Headquarters, the Commissioner of Police in Katsina, Sanusi Buba, noted that 1,116 suspects were being prosecuted in various courts in the state.

He revealed that 267 suspected armed robbers were arrested and charged to court, while 304 suspected kidnappers were also arrested and charged to court.

The police commissioner added that 393 kidnapped victims were rescued from hoodlums and 29 bandits were neutralised in a series of gun battles with the police within the year under review.

He stated that the police arrested 526 suspected cattle rustlers, and 1,366 cows, 1,211 sheep, 271 goats, and four donkeys were recovered from hoodlums.

Similarly, 287 suspects who were arrested in connection with 236 reported cases of rape have already been charged to court.

Buba said, “47 victims of human trafficking were rescued in six reported cases of human trafficking which were transferred to NAPTIP office in Kano; 18 stolen motor vehicles were also recovered during the period.

“Stolen motorcycles and bandits-owned motorcycles were recovered. 24 AK 47 rifles were recovered, 10 locally made pistols, 20 locally made guns, 600 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, one LAR rifle, one assault rifle, one double barrel, were also recovered.”

The police commissioner acknowledged the effort of the Nigerian Air Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other security agencies in the onslaught against banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling, armed robbery, human trafficking, and rape, among other crimes in the state.

He assured the people of Katsina that the command would sustain and improve the security situation in the state.

“We need credible information on the activities of bandits and the suppliers of fuel, motorbikes, food, and other logistics that facilitate crime and criminality,” Buba said.
